How We Calculate This

Single discount: Final = Original × (1 - Discount%). Stacked: Final = Original × (1 - Discount1%) × (1 - Discount2%). Tax is applied after all discounts.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do stacked discounts work?

Stacked discounts are applied sequentially, not added together. A 30% off + 10% off doesn't equal 40% off. The second discount applies to the already-reduced price: $100 × 0.70 × 0.90 = $63 (37% total discount).

Should I calculate discount before or after tax?

Discounts are typically applied to the pre-tax price. Sales tax is then calculated on the discounted amount. This calculator follows that order.

Is 50% off twice the same as 100% off?

No! Two 50% discounts stack to 75% off: $100 × 0.50 × 0.50 = $25. You can never reach 100% with percentage discounts.
