How We Calculate This

The Berkeley Earth formula is cigarettes/day = PM2.5 ÷ 22, where PM2.5 is in µg/m³. This calculator also scales for exposure time: cigarettes/day = (PM2.5 / 22) × (exposure hours / 24).
